Shell 5502A is a common HDPE material. It works well for hollow blow molding. It has strong melt strength and great resistance to stress cracks. It is firm and tough at the same time. It runs steadily during production. It makes finished parts with even wall thickness. Many factories use this plastic for packaging containers and hollow industrial products.
1. Basic Product Specifications
This is new plastic material. It is milky white grains. It has almost no dirt or black spots. Every batch has the same good quality. It comes in standard 25 kg original bags. We give quality test reports for each batch. You can check all quality records easily.
Density: 0.955 g/cm³ (ISO 1183)
Melt Flow Rate (MFR): 0.35 g/10min (190 °C/2.16kg, ISO 1133; normal range: 0.30–0.40 g/10min)
Tensile Yield Strength: Average 26 MPa (minimum 24 MPa, ISO 527)
Charpy Notched Impact Strength: 12 kJ/m² at 23°C. It stays tough even at low temperatures. We can share test data at -30°C if you need it.
Environmental Stress Cracking Resistance (ESCR): F50 ≥ 1000 hours (tested in 10% Igepal solution). It works better than most common blow molding HDPE materials on the market.
Melt Strength: Its material sag is over 30% less than regular HDPE with the same melt flow rate.

You can mix it with other HDPE materials to change hardness, toughness and flow ability. Please run a small trial of 5–10 kg before full production. This checks mixing effect and avoids layered parts or uneven quality.

4. Blow Molding Processing Guidelines
Recommended Process Parameters
Barrel Temperature: 180–220 °C. Raise the temperature step by step from the feed inlet to the nozzle.
Mold Temperature: 20–40 °C. Change the value according to product wall thickness.
Blow Pressure: 0.4–0.8 MPa. 0.5–0.7 MPa is good for common products.
Drying: No need to dry under normal storage. Dry the grains at 60–70 °C for 1 hour if they get wet.
Blending: Mix it with 10–20% LLDPE. The mixture resists drops better and becomes tougher.

Q1: Can we use Shell 5502A directly for food contact packaging?A: Yes. It follows GB 4806.6-2016 and FDA food contact standards. Few substances leak out and it releases little volatile gas. It fits food-grade hollow containers such as oil bottles and water barrels.
Q2: Can we mix this material with other polyethylene for production?A: Yes. Add 10–20% LLDPE to make products resist drops better. Mix with common HDPE to change melt flow ability. Run trial production first before mass work to prevent layered parts.
Q3: What size of barrels fit 5502A? Can it make barrels over 100L?A: Shell 5502A works best for containers from 0.2L to 50L. It is not suitable for barrels above 100L due to its melt strength. Please choose other stronger materials for large containers.
